2009 President's Letters

March 6, 2009
A Letter from Seamus Boyle to
Congressmen Neal and King

I applaud President Obama’s decision to proclaim March 2009 as Irish-American Heritage Month!  This is wonderful news.  Indeed, United States Presidents have now proclaimed March as Irish-American Heritage Month for nineteen years from 1991 – 2009 to honor the sacrifices and contributions of millions of Irish-Americans past and present.

I was wondering whether your Office would contact the following Federal Executive Agencies to ask them to celebrate Irish-American Heritage Month, March 2009 as a diversity initiative in a very low cost and simple, yet effective way:  The Social Security Administration; U.S. State Department; Department of Veterans Affairs; and Department of Agriculture.  It would be wonderful if these agencies would simply inform all of their employees that President Obama has proclaimed March 2009 as Irish-American Heritage Month and that they also give the employees the opportunity to view the Proclamation on the White House Website.  Perhaps this could be done by an email from the Agency Headquarters to all employees.  This Congressional advocacy action would provide for very widespread knowledge of Irish-American Heritage Month, March 2009.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Seamus Boyle AOH National President
