2008 President's Letters

A Letter from Seamus Boyle to
President-Elect Barack Obama

President Elect Barack Obama
713 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear President Elect Obama,

The Ancient Order of Hibernians in America, the oldest (1836) and largest Irish American fraternal group in the United States wishes to congratulate you on your election to the Presidency of the United States of America.

We would commend your campaign for honoring the A.O.H. and other Irish American groups by answering our questions in writing spelling out what the Obama administration policy would be on immigration, collusion, appointing an envoy for the Peace Process, and other issues.

Our Order would have a fundamental difference with your administration regarding a very strong Pro-Life position in our Constitution. We feel that in an administration that takes such a positive stance on children’s healthcare, the elderly, fair labor, and other strong human rights issues there needs to be room for a right to life for the unborn, beginning with late term abortions.

The A.O.H. feels that a cultural sea change has taken place in our country akin to the change when John F. Kennedy, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, won the office of President in 1960. He demonstrated that his Catholic religion was no barrier to the highest office in the land just as you, Barack Obama, have demonstrated that race will not be a barrier to the Presidency in the USA in 2008.

We wish you well in your office for the next four years and offer to work with your administration on any and all issues pertaining to our Order.

Sincerely,
Seamus Boyle
AOH National President
